A good week of reading, writing, spelling & comprehension.
We’ve continued to use our old sight words as a new list to help with our spelling, we sideline any word we get wrong and then write them down which helps lock in the correct spelling and also adds a bit of handwriting practice at the same time.
Emily has really enjoyed the speed at which she has learnt new words using this method.
We played hangman with some of the words on her spelling list as a different method to reinforce those words, whilst that was fun it really did slow things down, so we’ll use this more sparingly.
We’ve done a few sheets of comprehension with a set of facts given and then using that information to answer questions, similar to what will be seen in Grade 3 NAPLAN, the reading speed is a little slow but the comprehension was very good.
Reading is coming along, I think we are over the hump now and reading speed has increased and error rate had decreased. Emily has taken to reading some simpler book unassisted now and I’m hoping this will continue.
We’ve continued to read at least one book a day as consistency is really needed for Emily.
