Well this was a fun exercise,
We were just going to do some handwriting practice, but then we decided to make a short story so it was a little more interesting.
We had just been to the pool a couple of days prior and Emily had come down with a sore & somewhat raw throat plus a handy dose of the sniffles for about 48 hours, so ‘I’m Sick’ was born.
Emily enjoyed making the story up so much that after writing it down we decided to type it out as well.
We broke out Emily’s tablet with our little Bluetooth Keyboard and hey presto, we’ve got a workstation.
Emily has taken to the keyboard quite quickly, certainly quicker than she took to writing.
Once Emily had typed her story out and read it a few times and given it her final approval we popped it into WORD and found a font we liked and added some colour, we printed our First Short Story “I’m Sick”.
All in all a lovely experience for Emily, I’m sure well do more story telling, hand writing practice, typing, digital media and art again like this, each form reinforced the next and I’ve not seen Emily as energised to read or write more than with this story.
Wonderfully, she has continued to read more enthusiastically since this story, like the light bulb moment has finally, finally, finally happened for her. Harrah!
I’m looking forward to sharing the results.
